Introverted Thinking
Reasoning from internal logic and consistency — analyzing concepts from first principles for precise, self-consistent explanations.
Understanding the Function Abbreviations
Se, Si, Ne, Ni, Te, Ti, Fe and Fi are standard abbreviations for psychological functions, each made of two parts: a function type and an attitude direction.
- S · Sensing — What concrete information do I take in?
- N · iNtuition — What possibilities or patterns can I see?
- T · Thinking — Is this logical and consistent?
- F · Feeling — Does this fit values, relationships and feelings?
Why is Intuition "N" instead of "I"? Because I is already used for Introversion, Intuition takes the second letter of iNtuition: N.
- e · Extraverted — oriented toward outer objects and environment
- i · Introverted — oriented toward inner experience and structure
Conscious Expression
As a dominant or auxiliary function, Ti makes you an excellent deconstructor: you dig to the root, test whether assumptions hold together, spot contradictions and explain complex problems with simple principles.
Shadow Expression
In the shadow, Ti can become over-analysis, nitpicking others' logic, arguing to "win" rather than to understand, and missing bigger goals and human feelings while chasing perfect consistency.
Types That Use This Function
Growth Tip
Treat logic as a tool, not a weapon; accept that the most consistent explanation is not always the most fitting decision — leave room for intuition and feeling.
vs Te
Te pursues efficiency and objective results; Ti pursues precise internal logic. Te asks "how to get it done", Ti asks "does it hold together". Healthily: use Ti to think it through, Te to make it happen.
