Extraverted Sensing
Focused on the present environment and concrete information — immediate experience, quick reactions and strong action.
Understanding the Function Abbreviations
Se, Si, Ne, Ni, Te, Ti, Fe and Fi are standard abbreviations for psychological functions, each made of two parts: a function type and an attitude direction.
- S · Sensing — What concrete information do I take in?
- N · iNtuition — What possibilities or patterns can I see?
- T · Thinking — Is this logical and consistent?
- F · Feeling — Does this fit values, relationships and feelings?
Why is Intuition "N" instead of "I"? Because I is already used for Introversion, Intuition takes the second letter of iNtuition: N.
- e · Extraverted — oriented toward outer objects and environment
- i · Introverted — oriented toward inner experience and structure
Conscious Expression
As a dominant or auxiliary function, Se keeps you fully in the moment: you catch environmental details, improvise, love hands-on practice and instant feedback, and bring a "let's just do it" energy.
Shadow Expression
In the shadow, Se can become impulsiveness, thrill- or risk-seeking, or numbing stress through shopping or overeating — finding it hard to resist immediate temptations.
Types That Use This Function
Growth Tip
Give yourself a 10-second buffer before acting; practice using "pause" to tell "I want it" from "I actually need it".
vs Si
Si leans on familiar experience; Se embraces the present experience. Si asks "what is most reliable", Se asks "what can I do now". Healthily: use Se to embrace change, Si to avoid repeating mistakes.
