Extraverted Intuition
Driven by external possibilities and associations — divergent thinking that connects ideas across domains.
Understanding the Function Abbreviations
Se, Si, Ne, Ni, Te, Ti, Fe and Fi are standard abbreviations for psychological functions, each made of two parts: a function type and an attitude direction.
- S · Sensing — What concrete information do I take in?
- N · iNtuition — What possibilities or patterns can I see?
- T · Thinking — Is this logical and consistent?
- F · Feeling — Does this fit values, relationships and feelings?
Why is Intuition "N" instead of "I"? Because I is already used for Introversion, Intuition takes the second letter of iNtuition: N.
- e · Extraverted — oriented toward outer objects and environment
- i · Introverted — oriented toward inner experience and structure
Conscious Expression
As a dominant or auxiliary function, Ne makes you creative and curious: you link seemingly unrelated ideas, generate many possibilities quickly, and love exploring, experimenting and brainstorming.
Shadow Expression
In the shadow, Ne can scatter into distraction and poor focus, using "let me think of a better one" to avoid execution, or escaping into daydreams and inflated optimism under stress.
Types That Use This Function
Growth Tip
Give ideas a deadline: pick the most feasible option and try it, instead of waiting forever for the perfect plan.
vs Ni
Ni converges into one insight; Ne diverges into many possibilities. Ni asks "what is the essence", Ne asks "what else could it be". Healthily: use Ne to open options, Ni to pick a direction.
