About the RAS

The Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) is a brief, validated 7-item measure of overall relationship satisfaction developed by Susan S. Hendrick in 1988.

What the RAS Measures

The RAS assesses a single dimension: overall satisfaction with one's romantic relationship. It is suitable for individuals in dating, cohabiting, or married relationships.

It is widely used in both research and clinical settings as a quick screening and monitoring tool, and correlates strongly with longer measures such as the DAS and CSI.

Interpreting Your Results

Total scores range from 7 to 35, with higher scores indicating greater satisfaction. Items 4 and 7 are reverse-scored because they express negative evaluations of the relationship.

The RAS has no official clinical cutoff. Scores below 15 may suggest lower satisfaction, but interpretation should consider personal context. This tool is not a substitute for professional consultation.

This test is for educational and self-reflection purposes only. It is not a diagnostic tool. If you are experiencing mental health concerns, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.
