Tents and Trees

Play Tents and Trees free in your browser — no app, no download, no account. Place one tent next to each tree so that no two tents touch, not even diagonally, and the edge numbers tell you how many tents go in each row and column. A new Daily Challenge every day, plus boards from 6x6 up to 25x30.

Place tents in the grid. Each tree needs one tent attached horizontally or vertically. Tents cannot touch each other, even diagonally. Numbers indicate how many tents are in each row/column.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Let us know.

How do I start a new game?

Click the 'New Game' button to generate a fresh puzzle, or switch to the Daily Challenge for today's board. Use the size buttons (6x6 to 25x30) to pick your difficulty.

What do the numbers on the edges mean?

Each number tells you exactly how many tents must be placed in that row or column. A row showing 3 must contain exactly 3 tents.

How do I mark grass?

Right-click a cell on desktop, or press and hold a cell on mobile, to mark it as grass. This helps you eliminate cells you know are empty.

What if I make a mistake?

Use the Undo button to step back one move, or Reset to clear the board and start over. Mistakes are highlighted in red so you can correct them early.

What is the Daily Challenge?

Every day brings three fresh puzzles — 6x6, 10x10 and 15x15 — and players around the world get the same boards. Replay the last seven days from the calendar, or copy a link to any day's puzzle with the share button.

How does the hint button work?

Hints teach rather than solve: the game highlights a row or column and explains the next deduction — for example, a line that already has all its tents, or a tree with only one free cell. Use them as often as you like.

Can I fill an entire row or column of grass quickly?

Yes. Once a row or column reaches its tent count, click its edge number and all remaining empty cells in that line are marked as grass automatically.

Is Tents and Trees free to play?

Yes. Every puzzle on this page is completely free — no download, no account and no payment. Open the page and start playing.

Can I play Tents and Trees without downloading an app?

Yes. The puzzle runs entirely in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone, so there is nothing to install. If you want the same board on another device, just open this page there.

How big are the boards, and which size should I start with?

You can pick any size from 6x6 up to 25x30. Start with 6x6 or 8x8 to learn the deduction pattern, then move up — the Daily Challenge is a 10x10 board.

What are Missing Numbers levels?

In this mode some row and column numbers are hidden. The hidden lines still follow the same rules — the tents you place tell you what the missing numbers must be. Pick it from the Mode selector; it is available on boards up to 10x10.

What is No Grass mode?

A quicker variant without grass: you only place tents — right-click and long-press are disabled — and the puzzle is solved as soon as every tent is placed correctly. Pick it from the Mode selector.

How to Play

Tents and Trees is a classic logic puzzle where every tree must be paired with a tent. Follow these rules to solve each board:

  • Each tree must have exactly one tent adjacent to it (up, down, left, or right).
  • Tents cannot touch each other, not even diagonally.
  • The numbers on the edges tell you how many tents belong in each row and column.
  • A tent can only be placed on an empty cell next to a tree, so cells far from any tree are always grass.
  • Every board is generated with exactly one solution, so deduction always works.

Use the hints to reason step by step. If a row already matches its number, the remaining cells in that row are safe to mark as grass.

Strategy Tips

Build momentum by locking in the guaranteed placements first, then eliminate impossible cells.

  • Start with rows or columns that already have many trees or high numbers.
  • When a row reaches its tent count, mark the rest as grass to reduce clutter.
  • Check around each tree: if only one adjacent cell remains, that cell must be a tent.
  • Click a completed row or column number to automatically fill the remaining cells with grass.
  • Click a tree, then click one of its neighbors to quickly place and link a tent to it.
  • If you get stuck, use the hint button to reveal one correct placement instead of guessing.
