Learn the Map Continent by Continent
Naming all 195 countries in one sitting is a skill you build, not a trick you know. That's why Map Fill Mode has a continent filter: pick a single continent — Europe, Africa, Asia, North or South America, Oceania — and name only those countries. A single-continent round is far friendlier than the full world, and it is how most people actually learn the map.
Everything you find still counts toward your overall progress across the 195 countries. Once a continent starts to feel easy, switch the filter back to World and see how much further you get — then sharpen recognition with Shape Recognition Mode, which shows outlines without any location hints.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
How many countries are there in the world?
There are 195 widely recognized countries: 193 United Nations member states plus 2 observer states (the Holy See and Palestine). This quiz includes all 195 of them.
How do I play Shape Mode?
In Shape Mode, you'll see the outline of a country. Type the country's name to guess. If you're correct, you'll see the next country. One wrong answer ends the game!
How do I play Map Fill Mode?
In Map Fill Mode, you have 15 minutes to name as many countries as possible. Type country names and they'll be highlighted on the world map. Try to find all 195 countries!
What happens when the 15 minutes are up?
The round ends and you'll see how many of the 195 countries you found, plus your completion rate. Your best score is saved locally, so you can come back and try to beat it.
Can I play with just one continent?
Yes. In Map Fill Mode, pick a continent above the Start button — for example just Europe or just Africa — and only those countries will count. The 15-minute timer stays the same, and every country you find still adds to your overall progress.
Can I use country abbreviations?
Yes! Common abbreviations like 'USA' for United States or 'UK' for United Kingdom are accepted.
Can I play in Chinese?
Yes! You can type country names in Chinese as well as English.
Is my high score saved?
Yes, your high scores for both game modes are saved locally in your browser.
What is a good way to learn all the countries?
Work continent by continent. Run Map Fill Mode on one continent until it feels easy, then move to the next, and finally switch back to World. Shape Recognition Mode is a good second step: it removes the map and location hints, so you learn countries by their outlines alone.
Can I switch between the flat map and a 3D globe?
Yes. In both map modes, the button in the corner of the map toggles between the flat map and a draggable 3D globe, and countries you have found turn green on both views.
