Have another question? Let us know.

What counts as winning?

All four rows completed as 2→K same-suit sequences (each row ends with an empty cell). Two redeals are available to help you get there.

Can I move any card anywhere?

No — a card can only move into a gap whose left neighbor is the same suit and one rank lower. Only 2s are free to start any row.

Why is it called Gaps/Montana?

'Gaps' refers to the empty spaces you fill. 'Montana' is an alternative name used in some regions. Both refer to the same game.

How to Play

Gaps (also known as Montana) is a unique solitaire where you rearrange a grid of cards to form perfect sequences. Rules: • Uses 1 deck (52 cards) dealt into a 4 rows x 13 columns grid • The four Aces are removed, leaving gaps scattered throughout the grid • Move a card into a gap if the card to the left of the gap is the same suit and one rank lower (e.g., 5♠ after 4♠) • A 2 can be placed into any gap at the start of a row • Redeal: stuck? Up to two redeals per game — cards not yet in sequence are collected, shuffled, and dealt back into the gaps • Win by forming four complete 2→K same-suit rows (the end of each row stays empty) Strategy: Build sequences evenly across rows and keep low cards reachable. Save your redeals for when no useful moves remain — each one is precious.
