Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
How do I play Flood It?
Click a color in the palette. The top-left region and all same-colored cells connected to it switch to that color. Flood the entire board with one color before running out of moves.
What are the difficulty levels?
There are 12 progressive levels across 3 difficulty zones: Easy (L1-L4, 6-8 grid, 3-4 colors), Medium (L5-L8, 10-12 grid, 5-6 colors), and Hard (L9-L12, 14-16 grid, 6-7 colors).
How are stars awarded?
3 stars: remaining moves ≥ threshold. 2 stars: remaining moves ≥ half the threshold (rounded up). 1 star: any win. The threshold varies per level.
Why is a palette button disabled?
The button matching the current top-left color is disabled because picking it would have no effect and waste a move.
Is the board random each time?
Yes. Each level uses a seed-based random generator, so the layout changes on every restart while remaining solvable.

About Flood It
Flood It is a classic color flood puzzle that challenges your strategic thinking and color planning. Starting from the top-left corner, each color choice floods your connected region, gradually expanding across the board. The goal is simple yet deep: turn the entire board into a single color within a limited number of moves.
Playing Flood It exercises forward planning, graph-coloring intuition, and constraint satisfaction thinking. As boards grow larger and palettes richer, you learn to evaluate the long-term impact of each move rather than greedy short-term gains — a skill transferable to scheduling, pathfinding, and many real-world optimization problems.
Game Rules
• The board is a grid of colored cells • The top-left cell and its same-colored 4-connected region form the flooded zone • Click a color in the palette to repaint the flooded zone • Picking the same color as the top-left cell has no effect (no move consumed) • Each repaint costs 1 move • Win: the entire board becomes one color • Lose: moves run out before the board is unified
Scoring System
• 1 star: complete the level (any move count) • 2 stars: remaining moves ≥ half the 3-star threshold (rounded up) • 3 stars: remaining moves ≥ the 3-star threshold • The threshold scales with level difficulty (e.g. L1 ≥ 4 remaining, L12 ≥ 8 remaining) • Best stars per level are saved across sessions
