What is Crazy Eights?
Crazy Eights is a classic shedding-type card game for two or more players, played with a standard 52-card deck. It is the best-known member of the Eights family and a close cousin of UNO: players take turns matching the top of the discard pile by suit or rank, and the first to empty their hand wins.
What does the 8 do in Crazy Eights?
The 8 is wild: it can be played on top of any card regardless of suit or rank. When you play an 8 you immediately call a suit, and the next player must follow that suit (or play an 8). The call remains in effect until another card covers the 8.
When can I draw a card, and what happens after I draw?
You may draw whenever it is your turn — either because you have no playable card or by choice — but only one card per turn. If the drawn card is immediately playable you may play it in the same turn; otherwise your turn ends. After drawing, only the drawn card may be played that turn.
What happens when the stock runs out?
When the stock is empty, nobody can draw any more. A player with no playable card simply passes. If every player passes in succession, the round is settled by who holds the fewest cards.
Can I win by playing an 8 as my last card?
Yes. Playing your last card — even an 8 — wins immediately. You still choose the called suit when doing so, but the game ends the moment your hand is empty.
Is this Crazy Eights game free?
Yes, this Crazy Eights game is completely free to play in your browser — no download, no account and no real-money gambling. You play against three AI opponents, and it works on both desktop and mobile.
Game overview
- Four players (you against three AI opponents), each dealt 5 cards from a standard 52-card deck.
- The remaining 32 cards form the face-down stock; the top card is flipped to start the discard pile (a flipped 8 goes back into the stock).
- Be the first player to play all of your cards. Even your last card being an 8 counts as a win.
- Play a card matching the discard pile's top card by suit or by rank; eights are wild and can be played at any time.
Matching rule
Eights are wild
An 8 can be played on top of anything. When you play one, you immediately call a suit (spades, hearts, clubs or diamonds); the next player must then follow that called suit — or play an 8 of their own. The call stays in effect until another card is played on top.
How the game flows
Turn order
- You lead. Select one playable card and press Play; when you play an 8, pick the next suit from the four-suit picker.
- Play continues clockwise — each player matches the top card by suit or rank, or plays an 8.
- With no playable card (or by choice), draw one card from the stock: if the drawn card is playable you may play it right away; otherwise your turn ends.
- The first player to empty their hand wins; the rest are ranked by cards left.

Strategy tips
Spend eights with intent
An 8 is both a universal key and a steering wheel: play it to escape a locked suit, or to slam an opponent who is down to their last cards with a suit they are unlikely to hold.
Shed high cards early
When several cards match, play the highest rank first. High cards are the hardest to unload late, and every turn you keep one is a turn it can trap you.
Call the suit you hold most
When you play an 8, call the suit you have the most of — you stay matched to your own call while opponents may be stranded.
Watch opponents' counts
When an opponent is down to one or two cards, changing the suit with an 8 — or dumping a rank they just drew past — is often the only way to slow them down.
