Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
How many players?
1-4 players. Play solo, vs AI, or pass-and-play hot-seat with 2-4 humans on one device.
What's the hardest part?
Deciding when to stop. The temptation to keep rolling is strong, but busting loses all your progress for the turn.
Why is column 7 the tallest?
Because 7 is the most common sum of two dice (6/36 = 16.7% chance). Columns 2 and 12 are rarest (1/36 = 2.8%), so they're shortest.
What does the risk profile show?
It tracks your continue/stop decisions across the game, showing your risk tolerance tendencies: how often you push your luck, when you play it safe, and which columns you favor. It's a self-reflection tool, not a psychological assessment.
How does the AI decide?
The AI calculates exact bust probability with combinatorial math and scores every move. Difficulty decides how it plays: Easy looks only at the current step, while Medium and Hard both enumerate every possible outcome of the next roll — Medium still blunders on roughly 1 move in 10, Hard follows the numbers with no randomness. Rolling again is also a comparison of expected values: it keeps going only when the expectation (bust loss included) beats banking what it already has. It tracks opponents' progress too — columns where an opponent is well ahead are discounted, and when someone is one column from winning it lowers its stopping bar and races.
Can I undo a move?
Yes. The Undo button reverts to your last human decision point, skipping over any AI moves that happened in between.
What's the difference between Solo and vs AI?
Solo mode has no AI opponents — it's pure self-challenge to see how fast you can claim 3 columns. vs AI pits you against 1-3 computer opponents.

How to Play Can't Stop
Goal: Be the first to claim 3 columns by reaching the top of each!
The Board
The board has 11 columns numbered 2 through 12, arranged in a mountain shape. Column 7 (the middle) is the tallest at 13 spaces, while columns 2 and 12 are shortest at 3 spaces. This reflects the probability of rolling each sum with 2 dice.
Each Turn
- Roll all 4 dice
- Pair the 4 dice into 2 pairs (3 ways to do this). Each pair's sum determines which column you advance on.
- Advance your temporary climber on those columns by 1 space each
- Decide: Keep rolling (risk a bust) or Stop (save your progress)
Busting
If none of the 3 pairing options can be used (all target columns are blocked), you bust and lose all progress for this turn. Your turn ends immediately.
A column is blocked for a pairing if:
- The column is already claimed by someone, OR
- You don't have a climber on it AND you already have 3 active columns, OR
- Your climber is already on the top space of that column (the column is used up for this turn)
Claiming a Column
Reaching the top space uses that column up for the rest of your turn — your climber cannot advance there again. When you stop, every column holding one of your climbers on the top space is claimed: your marker stays there permanently and other players' progress on that column is removed. If you bust before stopping, nothing is claimed.
Winning
First player to claim 3 columns wins!

Strategy Tips
Probability Awareness:
- Column 7 is most likely (16.7% per roll), columns 2/12 are rarest (2.8%)
- When you have 3 active columns, bust probability spikes — consider stopping
- With fewer than 3 active columns, busting is very unlikely — keep rolling
When to Stop:
- Stop if you've made meaningful progress (2+ spaces advanced)
- Stop if bust probability exceeds ~40%
- Stop if you're close to claiming a column and want to secure it
When to Continue:
- Continue if bust probability is low (under 25%)
- Continue if you have fewer than 3 active columns
- Continue if you're one roll away from claiming a column
Column Selection:
- Prioritize middle columns (6, 7, 8) — easier to roll again
- Edge columns (2, 12) are quick to claim but hard to roll
- Don't spread too thin — focus on 2-3 columns
About Can't Stop
Can't Stop is a push-your-luck dice game designed by Sid Sackson and first published in 1980. It's considered a classic of the genre, renowned for its tension between greed and caution.
The game's brilliance lies in its simple rules masking deep probabilistic decisions. Every roll is a gamble — do you push for more progress or lock in what you have?
Psychology: Can't Stop is a fascinating study in risk tolerance. Players reveal their natural risk-seeking or risk-averse tendencies through their continue/stop decisions. This digital version tracks those decisions to create a risk profile — a self-reflection tool showing your tendencies under uncertainty.
This implementation features:
- ✅ Authentic rules with mountain-shaped board
- ✅ AI opponent with 3 difficulty levels using probability-based decisions
- ✅ Hot-seat multiplayer (2-4 players on one device)
- ✅ Risk profile tracking for self-discovery
- ✅ Precise bust probability calculation
Note: For entertainment and self-reflection. Not a psychological assessment tool.
