Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Let us know.

Why do Kings sink to the bottom of each column?

Nothing can ever be placed on a King, so a King dealt above other cards would bury them for the rest of the game. Sinking Kings to the bottom at the deal keeps every card reachable.

Is this game always winnable?

Not necessarily — while all cards are visible, poor sequencing can make it impossible to win. However, skilled play wins most deals.

What is the best strategy?

Focus on uncovering Aces first, then systematically work through low-value cards. Keep Kings accessible until you are ready to use an empty column.

How to Play

Baker's Dozen is a challenging open-information solitaire where all 52 cards are dealt face-up into 13 columns of 4 cards each. Rules: • 13 tableau columns, each starting with 4 face-up cards • At the deal, any King sinks to the bottom of its column, so no card is ever trapped under a King • No stock pile — what you see is what you get • Tableau: Build down regardless of suit (any 7 fits on any 8) • Only Kings can be placed into empty columns • Foundations: Build up by suit from Ace to King • Click to select, click destination to move • Double-click to auto-move to foundation Strategy: This is a pure skill game — no luck involved since everything is visible. Plan your moves carefully: 1. Prioritize moving Aces and low cards to foundations 2. Keep Kings reachable until you are ready to use an empty column 3. Create space by building long descending sequences 4. Think several moves ahead — every move matters!
