Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Let us know.

What makes Agnes Sorel different from Klondike?

All 28 tableau cards are face-up from the start, the master card sets the foundation starting rank (not always Ace), columns build down in the same color instead of alternating, and the stock deals 7 cards at a time with no redeal.

Can I move cards between tableau columns?

Yes. Build down in the same color, and move same-suit descending sequences as a group. Any exposed card can go to an empty column.

Why is the master card important?

The master card (the 29th card) determines the rank at which each foundation starts. The four cards of that rank are the foundation bases, and foundations wrap from King to Ace.

How to Play

Agnes Sorel is a classic solitaire variant (Dalton, 1909). All cards are face-up and visible from the start, so skill matters more than luck. Setup: • Tableau: 28 face-up cards in a left-aligned triangle — column 1 gets 7 cards, column 2 gets 6... column 7 gets 1 • Master card: The 29th card is revealed as the master card. The four cards of the same rank become the foundation bases • Stock: The remaining 23 cards, dealt face-up to the columns in batches of 7 (one per column), then the final 2 cards. There is no redeal Rules: • Build columns down in the same color (red on red, black on black) • A group of cards may be moved together if it forms a same-suit descending sequence • Any exposed card may be placed on an empty column • Foundations build up by suit starting from the master card's rank, wrapping from King to Ace Strategy: Since every card is visible, plan several moves ahead. Build long same-suit sequences to move cards efficiently, and keep empty columns available for reshuffling.
