Perceptual Metacognition
Compare the number of dots on the left and right (F = more on left, J = more on right), then rate your confidence (1-4).
Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
What is metacognition here?
After each perceptual decision you rate your confidence; the analysis asks how well that confidence tracks whether you were actually correct.
What is metacognitive sensitivity?
The link between accuracy and confidence — high sensitivity means you are right more often exactly when you feel more sure, sometimes formalized as meta-d'.
Can I be confident and wrong?
Yes — confidence and accuracy dissociate under time pressure and noise, and overconfidence on difficult trials is a stable research finding.
Why study this?
Metacognitive sensitivity underpins learning, error monitoring, and self-regulation, and it varies partly independently of raw task performance.
