School Readiness Check (China Edition)
Is your child ready for primary school? Self-check 25 practical skills across the four adaptations (physical, life, social, learning) — no phonics, no handwriting, no arithmetic.
25 Practical Skills Across 4 Adaptations
Think about your child's recent real behavior for each item and answer Yes / No. Answer "Yes" only for skills your child can do consistently.
How Is the China Edition Different?
In China, the transition to primary school differs from US Kindergarten (ages 5-6): children legally enter primary school at age 6, so the transition spans ages 5-7 — preparation from 5-6 and adaptation from 6-7. This check is designed around the Ministry of Education's Guidelines for School Readiness Preparation Education, organized into four adaptations (physical, life, social, learning), and focuses on "can my child start school life smoothly."
Per the Ministry of Education's requirements, readiness does not mean testing phonics, handwriting, or arithmetic — those are learned systematically in Grade 1. This check only covers the self-care, emotional and social skills, learning habits, and basic number sense needed for school, avoiding the frustration that premature academics can cause.
The result reflects the current state, not a verdict on your child. Find the skills worth practicing, weave them into everyday situations naturally, and retake the check in 1-3 months to see progress.
How to Use
- Reflect on your child's real behavior over the past 1-2 months and answer honestly. If unsure, check the practice tip for guidance.
- After answering all items, view the report: total score plus readiness per dimension. Items not yet mastered come with concrete at-home practice ideas.
- Fold practice into daily games and routines, then retake the check in 1-3 months to watch your child's progress.
