Random Team Generator
Random Team Generator splits any list of names into fair, random teams in one click. Paste your players, students, or colleagues, choose how many teams you want — or how many people should be on each team — and the tool shuffles everyone instantly and shows the result. No signup, no email, no download.
It works with any list you already have: a column copied from Google Sheets or Excel, names separated by commas, or one name per line. Teams appear in a second, and you can copy them, export them as CSV, or reshuffle until the draw feels right.
How to use the team generator
- Paste your list. One name per line, or comma-separated. You can paste straight from a spreadsheet column.
- Pick your split mode. Choose the number of teams you need, or set how many people go on each team.
- Generate. Everyone is shuffled at once and the teams appear instantly.
- Save or reshuffle. Copy the result, export it as CSV, or hit reshuffle for a fresh draw.
Two ways to split a list
Split by number of teams
Enter 6 teams and the whole list is divided into six. This is the usual choice for classroom group work, five-a-side practice, or a workshop with a fixed number of rooms.
Split by team size
Enter 4 per team and the tool creates as many teams as your list allows. Use it when the size matters more than the count — a lab group of three, a doubles bracket, or breakout rooms of five.
Leftover members are never dropped. If 22 people split into 4 teams, the extras are distributed one per team so no team ends up two players short.
Random, and balanced when you need it
A plain shuffle is random, but random isn't always fair — two of your strongest players can land on the same team. If you paste a rating, a skill level, or a seed next to each name, the generator can distribute players so the average strength of each team is as close as possible. Same list, same number of teams, far more even games.
You can also lock pairings: keep two people on the same team (partners, lab mates), or keep two people apart (the two students who should not sit together). The shuffle respects both rules.
What people use it for
Classrooms
Group work, lab partners, reading circles, seating plans, and presentation order. The no-repeat mode remembers the last round so the same students don't keep landing in the same group week after week.
Sports and PE
Practice squads, five-a-side draws, tournament brackets, and rotating captains. Coaches use it to keep sessions fair when the roster changes week to week.
Team building and workshops
Breakout rooms, icebreakers, and rotating tables. Facilitators draw once at the start and share the result with the room.
Football and gaming squads
Draw random squads for FC 25, FIFA, NBA 2K, or co-op runs in Genshin — great for couch multiplayer when nobody wants to argue over teams.
Parties and family games
Charades, board games, doubles matches, and team trivia. Two taps and the arguments are gone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
What is a random team generator?
It's a tool that takes a list of names and assigns those people to teams at random, so nobody has to pick and no one can complain about the draw. It replaces drawing straws or writing names on scraps of paper.
How do I split a list into random teams?
Paste your names, choose the number of teams or the size of each team, and generate. The shuffle happens in your browser and the result appears immediately, ready to copy or export.
Is it really random?
Every possible order of the list is equally likely, and the order is scrambled before the first team is filled. Reshuffling gives a genuinely new draw rather than a slightly shifted one.
Can I create teams of a specific size?
Yes. Switch to team size mode and enter 2 for pairs, 3 for trios, or any number you need. The tool creates as many teams as the list allows and tells you if anyone is left over.
Can I keep two people on the same team or on different teams?
Yes — lock them together or apart before you generate, and the shuffle will respect both rules.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
It's free and no account is required. There's no limit on lists or reshuffles.
Does it work for FC 25, FIFA, or NBA 2K squad draws?
Yes. It's one of the most common uses — paste your player list, set the number of teams, and draw squads for a session.
Can I use it for classroom groups?
Yes. Teachers use it for group work, lab partners, and seating plans. No-repeat mode keeps the same students from being grouped together every week.
