About This Test
The Vices and Virtues Scales (VAVS) measure the interplay between seven shadow tendencies and seven character strengths, inspired by the medieval concept of the seven deadly sins and the seven opposing virtues.
How the Test Works
Answer 42 situational questions using a 5-point agreement scale. Each question feeds one of 14 dimensions: seven sins and seven virtues. Your score for each dimension is the average of its items, scaled to a 0–100 range.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have another question? Let us know.
Is this the original VAVS test?
No. This test is inspired by the Vices and Virtues Scales research framework, but all questions are original situational items written for Kuakua. It is designed for self-reflection, not research use.
Does a high sin score mean I'm a bad person?
Not at all. A high shadow score simply describes a tendency — everyone carries some shadow. These tendencies often point to unmet needs or pressures. The test makes no moral judgment.
Can I score high on both a sin and its opposing virtue?
Yes, and this is by design. Sins and virtues are measured as separate dimensions, so you may be strongly driven by pride in some situations while genuinely humble in others. Both voices can live in the same person.
How are my scores calculated?
Each of the 42 questions belongs to one of the 14 dimensions. Your dimension score is the average of its questions, converted to a 0–100 scale. The higher the number, the more that tendency describes you.
