Follow the Same Rule Test

Match the symbol pair that transforms the same way as the reference pair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have another question? Let us know.

What does 'the same rule' mean?

In every question the reference pair shows an input symbol turning into an output symbol. One of the four option pairs uses exactly the same transformation on the same rule dimension — shape, color, fill, or rotation.

How is my score calculated?

You get one point for each correct answer. Wrong answers are penalized by one third of a point to discourage guessing, matching the formula scoring used in many aptitude tests.

Are the questions the same every time?

No. Every attempt generates fresh pairs from four rule families, so you can practice as many times as you like without memorizing answers.

What happens if the 5-minute timer runs out?

Your test is submitted automatically and your results are calculated from the questions you answered, just like a timed screening test.

Why rule-matching challenges matter

Follow-the-same-rule tasks train analogical reasoning — spotting the transformation shared by two pairs of symbols and transferring it to a new case.

Shape Rule

The output symbol is always the same shape, regardless of the input.

Color Rule

The output symbol is always the same color.

Fill Rule

The output symbol is always filled (or always outlined).

Rotation Rule

The output symbol always points the same way.
