About AI Quests

AI Quests is an educational initiative from Google Research, developed in collaboration with the Stanford Accelerator for Learning. Designed for students ages 11 to 14, the program invites learners to step into the shoes of Google researchers and apply AI to real-world challenges across climate, health, and science. Guided by an in-game mentor named Professor Skye, students explore the fundamentals of AI through a series of adventures set in a fantasy world but inspired by genuine Google research projects. The first quest, focused on flood forecasting, teaches students how to collect relevant data sources like rainfall and river flow, evaluate data quality, train and test models, and use them to help communities anticipate floods. Future quests explore AI's role in detecting diabetic retinopathy and mapping the human brain through connectomics. At the end of each quest, students receive a recorded video message from the real researchers behind the work, showing how AI is being used responsibly to improve lives worldwide. Each quest also comes with a complete lesson plan and teacher guide.

Playing AI Quests helps students build AI literacy, critical thinking, and an understanding of how artificial intelligence can address real-world problems. The game teaches the complete AI project lifecycle—from problem definition and data collection to model training, testing, and reflection—while fostering curiosity about how technology can make a positive impact on the world.
