Parenting Risk Self-Check

Based on Annex 1 of the National Health Commission's Early Childhood Development Service Guide (Trial). Self-check parenting behavior, care environment and caregiver well-being to spot risks early and adjust.

Select Your Child's Current Age

Choose the checkpoint matching your child's age, then review the past month honestly and answer Yes / No.

9 checkpoints: 1, 3, 6, 8, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 months

Why Monitor Parenting Risks?

The first three years are the fastest period of brain development — about 80% of brain growth happens before age 3. Parenting behavior (responsive care, early learning opportunities), the care environment (toys, books, peers and nature) and caregiver mental health jointly shape a child's motor, language, cognitive and social development.

Finding a "risk" does not mean a problem is inevitable. It is an early reminder to improve the caregiving factors that may affect development. Early identification and adjustment usually bring the best outcomes.

This screening tool comes from the NHCC Early Childhood Development Service Guide (Trial) and is used in community child health services. It assesses caregiving, not the child, and cannot replace professional evaluation.

How to Self-Check

  1. Select the checkpoint matching your child's actual age (for premature babies use actual age).
  2. Review the past month honestly and answer Yes / No for each item. A "Yes" on any item suggests a possible risk.
  3. Review positive items and targeted advice, adjust caregiving accordingly, and re-check in 1-2 months.
